Here's a more detailed guide for treating electric shock:
1. Ensure Personal Safety - Do not touch the victim directly if they are still in contact with the electrical source. Turn off the power source if possible. Use a non-conductive object, like our electric shock rescue hook, to push the victim away from the electrical source if you cannot turn off the power.
2. Assess the Victim - Check for responsiveness. Check for breathing. Look for chest movements, listen for breath sounds, and feel for breath on your cheek.
3. Provide Immediate Care - If the victim is unresponsive and not breathing, begin CPR immediately. Use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) if available. Turn it on and follow the instructions provided by the device.
4. Treat for Shock and Monitor - Keep the victim lying down and as still as possible. Cover the victim with a blanket to maintain body temperature.
5. Treat Burns - Look for burn injuries on the skin where the electricity entered and exited the body. Cool the burns with cool (not cold) running water for at least 10 minutes. Cover burns with a sterile gauze or a clean cloth. Do not apply creams, oils, or ointments.
6. Wait for Emergency Services - Stay with the victim until help arrives. Provide information to emergency personnel about the nature of the accident and any first aid given.
Important Notes - Electricity can cause internal injuries even if there are no visible signs. Always seek medical attention after an electric shock. Electrical injuries can result in cardiac arrest, even if the victim initially appears fine. Monitoring is crucial.
